Monocytopenia: In a person who is otherwise healthy, monocytopenia (low number of monocytes measured in blood) may be from normal variation on testing, or due to benign causes like an infection or stress. The treating doctor can best interpret whether the finding is significant. If there are no other concerns, doctors often wait until the next time the patient needs blood drawn, then compare the results.
