Hold pressure: Hold pressure for 5 minutes. Avoid tearing the clot off when removing the tissue or gauze by moistening it. If he is on blood thinners and the bleeding profuse, consider seeing a doctor.

Apply pressure: Apply firm pressure for 10 minutes. If he is taking a blood thinning medication, and/or aspirin, apply pressure for 15-20 minutes. No peeking! If it is still bleeding, apply pressure again and take to an Emergency Room or Urgent Care. If it is stopped, apply a nonadherent dressing/bandage and clean it twice a day with mild soap and water. If there is any sign of infection, see a doctor.
