Yes: Yes this can happen, however if your tonsils or neck lump are larger than 1cm and last for more than 30 days, please see a doctor to have it evaluated.

Yes: Yes, neck lymph nodes can remain enlarged for some time following an infection. They should return to normal size, but occasionally can permanently stay enlarged. If so, or if the tonsils are asymmetric, ENT evaluation is often needed.

Lymph node swelling: After an infection clears the lymph node can still stay swollen. One has to be certain that there is not a residual infection in that lymph node or even an abscess. The tonsil can stay swollen and it is important that that also is checked to make sure there is no abscess.
