A member asked:

Is it possible to get a false positive tsh test result caused by stress if your tsh was 11.13?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Complex: Hi. It's unlikely "stress" can give a false positive TSH elevation, but "stress" comes in multiple flavors. If a person is severely ill (usually ICU-tpye ill or at least hospitalized), an adaptive response (unfortunately) called "euthyroid sick syndrome" can show a TSH elevation in that range during a phase of the condition. Only in a case like that. Stress like a final exam next week? No.
