A member asked:

When a dr is checking for hemorrhoids don't they need to go inside the anus to make sure some aren't internal? my dr didn't do that.

Anal exam needed: Since hemorrhoid a can occur in and out of anal, canal, finger exam is typically performed to do a complete exam. Perhaps you had other exams that provided the same information, but digital exam is customary.

Yes: There are both internal and external hemorrhoids. External are outside the anus, and can be seen easily. Internal hemorrhoids would be seen with an anoscope, a short tube inserted into your anus.

Hemarhoids check: He was probably checking for external hemarroids. If one is checking for internal hemarroids, then an anoscopy needs to be done.
