Is there neurotic and psychotic depression?

These are old terms.: But, yes, depression can occur with or without psychotic symptoms. And neurotic depression referred to several things like less severe depression or chronic depression.

New definitions: Pre 1980, psychotic depression just referred to more severe depression than neurotic. After 1980 with dsm 3 psychosis had to have delusions or hallucinations. Since we now use antipsychotic med like Abilify (aripiprazole) and seroquel to treat depression reguardless of psychosis, the old definition might be relevant.
