More relaxed: One symptom of anxiety is a decrease in appetite and/or trouble swallowing. Xanax, also known as alprazolam, reduces anxiety. It does not promote weight gain in any other way

Xanax (alprazolam): One of the many side effects of this medication is possible appetite and weight changes. You may want to talk to your prescribing doctor about this and have a discussion as to whether the relief the medication gives you from your anxiety is worth the trade off of appetite changes and weight gain. Something for you to think about.

Not side effect: Increase in hunger and weight gain are not specific side effects of xanax (alprazolam).

Relaxed: Xanax (alprazolam) is a tranquilizer and has mild anti depressive activity. I hope that you are seeing your primary care physician as eating disorders can be quite serious. You might consider also consider seeing a nutritionist to guide you in meal planning. But be careful, Xanax (alprazolam) can be habit forming & must be monitored by your physician who also may refer you to a therapist to handle your anxiety problems.
