A member asked:

Dr gave me xanax (alprazolam) xr 3mg @night for gad/insomnia, and i honestly barely feel it. never abused drugs, so i'm concerned why i don't feel such a high dose?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

This has generally: Been my experience with this medication. It is slow release and long acting and not at all suitable for insomnia. The few people I have on it are given it in the morning and are given a prn dose for daytime panic. There are better options for generalized anxiety, including cognitive therapy, exercise, acupuncture, meditation, tai chi, yoga, massage, naturopathic treatments, and other benzo's.
