There is always that: chance that nerve compression can led to permanent changes -that can occur with a. Acute or sudden onset or in a chronic setting but it is not the usual scenario with most resolving non operatively. If there are significant findings immediately or progressing findings of weakness especially one should consult with an orthopedic spine surgeon or neurosurgeon for an opinion.
