Maybe nothing : Autoimmune thyroiditis doesn't require treatment unless the thyroid is either over or under active. Acute thyroiditis which can cause fever and be painful because of bacterial infection is treated. It is uncommon, however. Patients with autoimmune thyroiditis are routinely monitored to follow thyroid function.
