What kind of sound?: Cracking? Creaking? Singing? Cartilage or tendons snapping, popping, or possibly nitrogen bubbles being forced out of solution rapidly by quickly moving joints. The truth is nobody actually knows why joints crack but you shouldn't worry about it unless it's painful in which case you should see your doctor. Otherwise, just excuse yourself if someone hears your knees making noises in public! LOL.
