Depends: Depends on why you got the stitches in the first place and the appearance of the wound.

Depends: I would say that it depends on the location in which they were placed. Some places need to have the stitches longer to ensure the wound will not come back open, such as over joints. Also, in other areas the stitches are kept a shorter period of time to reduce scarring and improve cosmetic outcome such as over the face.
