Not at all.: The medications that are sometimes used to control violent behaviors can be very sedating. If the patients are not combative, they don't have to take sedating medications. Often the drugs that enhance memories like Namenda (memantine) and Aricept can actually help control their agitation. Just like any adults, patients with dementia also get depressed and anxious and have to be treated accordingly.
