Yes: Alzheimer's and parkinson's diseases both cause loss of olfactory perception leading to loss of sense of smell. Since enjoyment of food is very dependent on smell our food, people with dementia often lose their appetite because food doesn't smell appetizing. Adding aromatic spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or even hot sauce can help make food interesting again. Good luck!
