130 years: Chiropractic was developed by a fellow named palmer in rural iowa in the 1880's, not exactly the center of medical or scientific progress at the time. He postulated a connection between spinal vertebrae positioning and nerve problems causing disease. Later studies have shown this is not true and the manipulations chiros engage in are a form of deep massage but not diagnostic or curative.

Traditional Oriental Medicine, and Acupuncture utilized spinal manipulation in conjunction with exercise, acupuncture, acupressure, herbs, etc. This tradition was rediscovered and has become what is known as chiropractic in the United States.

Late 1800's: It came from the 'spirit world ' to DD Palmer a failed faith healer who claimed to cure deafness by adjusting the spine. He apparently believed he could cure all disease by manipulating imagined misalignments of the spine. The best part is .... people believed him. And now there are millions (if not billions) of dollars spent annually on manipulation making chiropractors rich, and pts frustrated
