No: Cortisone cream is not as strong as cortisone injections, but it is safer. The reason we use creams instead of giving everyone cortisone pills or shots is that they do not cause steroid related side effects as often or as severely. Side effects form cortisone shots can include weight gain, increased appetite, anxiety, irritability, insomnia, effects on bone health, and increased blood sugar.
