A member asked:

What do you suggest if my eight year old daughter had a ng tube in her espaugus is it dangerous?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: All interventions have some associated risk.In the right setting, this is a necessary part of therapy. If the situation arises that suggests the tube would need to be in to assure fluid balance for weeks or longer, a gastrotomy could be performed with placement of a gastric tube. That would allow access with less nose and throat irritation. That also has potential complications.
