Old scars can be: painful if they are stretched.They have less elasticity and stretch less well than the surrounding tissue,resulting in some mild discomfort.If there is any redness or drainage,let your doc take a look.

Mgt: Sometimes scars do contract, and can cause pain. If she has any trouble breathing, I would advise a visit to the ED. Otherwise your PCP may elect to obtain a radiograph.
