Cancer can occur: Radiation dose from ct is about 100 times chest x-ray. However the exact number of scans to induce cancer is not precisely known. More CTs increase chance of developing cancer. Most institutions have reduced amount of exposure in recent years. If same diagnosis can be made with mr or ultrasound, non ionizing radiation, they should be chosen.For certain medical problems ct is necessary.
