What happens if you have abnormal valves function of the great saphenous vein, will the removal of it solve the varicose veins?

Sometimes: Varicose veins can be caused by non-functional valves in the great saphenous vein but not all the times. A vascular specialist can tell you better after a complete exam and ultrasound. If it does come from that vein, then treating that vein will take care of your varicose veins

Not necessarily.: Malfunctioning of the valves of the greater saphenous vein could lead to varicose veins. However varicose veins could also occur from malfunctioning valves of other veins such as the small saphenous vein, various accessory veins and even unusual veins such as a duplicated saphenous vein. Closing the gsv will seal the valves but you may still require removal of varicose veins by micro incisions.

Varicose veins: Yes destroying the vein will solve this issue Most often this can be accomplished by thermal ablation and not formal surgery
