DSM: Although it has generated a lot of controversy, especially with the recently released fifth version, the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" is the standard for classification in the United States. It takes an "atheoretical" approach in that it does not adhere to any one school of thought, such as Freudian or biological. The ICD-10 is used in Europe.
