Proteinuria: Protein in the urine is diagnostic of diabetic kidney disease in people with diabetes. Protein in urine can increase risk of complications such as stroke, heart attacks, nerve and eye problems. If found early, the protein loss in the urine can be reversed. However, if the protein loss is substantial, the disease will progress and complications are likely to follow. She needs to see her doctor.
