Depends: The package insert says that alcohol can cause an Antabuse (disulfiram) reaction within 24 hours of drinking alcohol. However, in most cases, all detectable alcohol in blood and the body are gone within 8--10 hours, unless drinking has been very heavy and there is liver damage. If the drug is not deterring you from drinking, you should talk with your doctor about another anti-craving medication.

Antabuse: It is recommended that one be alcohol free for at least 12 hours prior to taking antabuse. If you are prescribed this medication, hope you are also receiving counseling.

Alcohol abuse: Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. You behaviour suggests that you have an alcohol abuse problem and should seek counselling. Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
