A member asked:

I was wondering is a cystoscopy (bladder biopsy) standard procedure if you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer?

Not routinely: I have not seen a cystoscopy routinely done for prostate cancer. It could be considered if the cancer was very advanced and there was suspicion of bladder invasion. It could be considered to evaluate blood with urination to find the source of bleeding.

Reason: Cysto. is looking in the bladder with a scope. If you were told by the urologist that bladder biopsy will be done, there must be a reason(there are severaldifferent reasons to biopsy bladder).Ask your urologist why a bladder biopsy is planned. But,answering your quesion,it is not standard procedure to do cystoscopy unless there is evidence of obstruction(sympt&flow test) Good luck with your prost.ca
