Pathology photos: A lung cancer in a lung is usually a dominant mass and usually white, though it may be more subtle. The black is simply from the smoke that's accumulated over the years. The blackness in the lungs frightens people, and rightly so, but it is actually more of a marker for other damage caused by smoke than a problem by itself.
