What happens if and when i get iv sedation for a root canal, can i ask them to put the needle in my left arm?

You'll get sleepy: There are multiple potential sites for the IV to be placed. Many providers will have their own preferences, but you can make a suggestion and see what he or she has to say about it. Sometimes the vessels are better in one arm versus the other, so it may come down to that.
