Sepsis isn't subtle: You would be critically ill with fever, hypotension, and altered level of consciousness if you had yeast in your blood. This is a common misconception. Sepsis is by definition a state of shock caused by systemic infection, bacteremia or viremia. Systemic fungal infections are very uncommon and usually are seen in profoundly immunosuppressed patients, e.g transplant, chemotherapy, AIDS.
