A member asked:

Why are serum calcium and ace levels increased in sarcoidosis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not known.: No one knows exactly why high calcium levels occur in granuloma-forming disorders such as sarcoidosis. Contributing factors may include dehydration, increased uptake of oral calcium and/or decreased calcium excretion, especially if the kidneys are not 100% functional. ACE activity is also increased, but again no one knows exactly why. ACE is thought to be produced by cells in the granulomas.
