You will never get rid of the herpes as long as you live so be careful and use protection and make sure your partners know you have it. You can shed the virus even thou you don't have active lesions

They should get a herpes test to see if they are already infected or previously infected. Herpes viral shedding happens irregardless of sores or outbreaks.
