Swollen cheek: Yes it can be because of all the dentist's manipulation. The swell ing should recede in a few days. Applying ice might reduce the swelling

Be patient: Pain is never normal, however, if your tooth hurt before the root canal treatment it may take a while to heal. Use NSAID or Tylenol (acetaminophen) OTC to control the pain. Should the swelling or pain last for more than 7 days, call your dentist for post op examination.

Questions to ask: This cannot be evaluated over the internet without having initially treated you and unable to know more information as well as personally examine you. Pain getting worse, better or the same? Swelling getting worse, better or the same. Are you on antibiotics? Pain and swelling may take days to a week to completely abate. Call the dentist who actually treated you for advice.

Possibly: Response to treatment varies according to virulence of the infectious agent, host response and trauma sustained during treatment. It would be best to call your DDS and advise them of your status so that appropriate follow-up care can be provided. Good luck

Infection: Did the swelling occur after the root canal or were you swollen when the root canal was started? Are you on any antibiotics? See your treating dentist for and evaluation of your swelling.
