Retreatment: You need to call your dentist and let him know. You may have an infection. In most cases you are given an antibiotic after a root canal is done.

Swelling post endo: Its possible that residual infection outside the tooth that lead to needing to retreat the root canal has flared up contact the endodontist to let them know what is going on.

Not likely: Anything is possible. However, the feeling that a tooth needs to be drained during a root canal isn't supported by good clinical practice or research. An endodontist is bound by what we call "standard of care" they are morally and legally obligated to provide quality care that meets or exceeds good clinical practice in your area. It is not in your best interest or theirs to do substandard work.
