I've had a sebaceous cyst on the back of my neck for a few years. recently it changed from circular/hard to elongated/soft. should i be concerned?

Probably no cause for concern but if it becomes red, sore or starts draining it could be infected. You could see your FP to get it removed before infection occurs.
