Blood Glucose: The initial test for diabetes is a fasting (8-12 hours) blood glucose test - usually done by a finger prick check but can also be done by a blood draw. Typically fasting blood sugar values below 100 are considered non-diabetic, 100-126 pre-diabetes, and greater than 126 as defined by diabetes. A hgba1c blood test can then be done to monitor progress of treatment as this is a roughly 3 month avg.
