Crampy pain: Many women experience menstrual cramps just before and during their menstrual periods. These are throbbing or cramping pains in the lower abdomen. The cramps can be a quite painful or simply a dull ache. They can be periodic or continual. Pain also may be felt in the lower back, inner thighs, or hips. Pelvic anatomy and lack of exercise can contribute to painful menstrual cramps.
