Slowly: To lose weight insure that calories burned > calories consumed. Drink at least 8 - 8 oz glasses of water per day. Try for 8 hours of sleep/night. Aim for at least 5 servings of vegetables & 4 servings of fruit per day. Use whole grain when possible. Avoid sodas, alcohol & junk carbohydrates. Get in a good mix of aerobic & weight lifting exercises.

Burn calories: The simple key to weight loss is to burn more calories than you consume. Hold your calorie intake constant with a sensible diet, then exercise your butt off (as we say in the US) with any aerobic exercise you enjoy (e.g. swimming, running, walking long distances).

Life style change: I'm not a strong believer in fad diets, they should be avoided. The best way to lose weight is life style changes. Exercising at least 30 minutes 5 or more days a week and eating a balanced diet with 5 or more fruits and vegetables, limited carbs and fats. Total fat should not exceed 30% of your calories consumed. Strictly avoid trans fats. Drink a full glass of water prior to every meal.
