Benadryl (diphenhydramine) sedation: If Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (diphenhydamine) causes sedation, don't take it. In some states, driving under the influence of a sedating medication can get you into as much trouble as driving drunk. Try the otc meds fexofenadine (allergra), or Loratadine (claritin). Tip: generic lotatadine is available from costco or sam's club for about $12.00 for 365 tablets. They are tasteless and chewable for kids 1/2 = 5mg.
