A member asked:

I've seen a uv light wand that claims to kill viruses, bacteria, and odor. its advertisement says hospitals use them. is this true and effective?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

UV light kills germs: True that UV light is damaging to various life forms-- including us! Except we're so much bigger than tiny germs it's hard to finish us off with a blast of UV. The CDC recognizes UV light as an effective way to disinfect small quantities of clear water. Any particles in the water (however small) could block the UV light and protect the germs. Boiling and iodine are older technologies that work.
