Inflammatiion: Condition which is autoimmune, in which inflammation of medium sized arteries in the body including the temporal arteries of the head occurs. Mechanism not fully understood. Causes headaches and can lead to blindness. Diagnosis usually requires biopsy of an affected vessel along with blood work (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) for confirmation. Treatment consists of steroids and is very successful

Temporal arteritis: is an inflammatory condition of the blood vessels supplying the head and brain. It is believed to be an autoimmune disorder resulting from an inappropriate immune response possibly after an infection. It can run in families. It can lead to blindness and stroke if not treated. Treatment consists of steroids medications. Relief of headaches usually follows within days of treatment. See your doctor.
