RED THROAT: Irritation of the tonsils after the foreign body was removed. Tonsillitis , abscesses, etc.

Probably traumatic: First thought was the child had something jabbed into their mouth (siblings r common culprits). You mention there was removal of candy from her mouth by a parent. Likely some trauma to the mucosa in the area during this maneuver. Other possibilities would include viral or bacterial infection. I would have her checked out. If no serious injury then short course of steroids may help with swelling.
