A member asked:

Why do you think the rate has increased on cesarean vs. vaginal birth in recent years?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Variety of causes: We now have better ways of monitoring labor, leading to early detection of cord abnormalities (neck wraps or knots) that mean higher risk of brain damage if labor continues. We have a greater expectation of a perfect birth (no forceps marks, bruised babies, etc)We have >50% of the litigating attorneys in the world in the US who want something to do. OB's are one of the groups most often targeted
