Meningeal herniation: A meningocele is a protrusion of the meninges, outer lining of the brain or spinal cord, and contains csf, cerebrospinal fluid.They can be congenital or acquired, for example after surgery. Most are located in the lumbosacral region. A simple meningocele is usually not associated with other spinal abnormalities.
