Can happen...: The fact that your lungs are undergoing inflammation due to active infection is enough reason to cause pain. If you have been coughing as a result of this problem this could also hurt the rib cage and cause pain due to mechanical strain caused by the cough. It is also common to have pain associated with inflammation of the pleura or the outside covering of the lungs which could happen as well.
