Out of context: Lab value norms are set for a bell shaped curve. Cholesterol has several components and taking care or reassuring you of a cholesterol issue is never just about one lab value. it is about your history, your other diagnose and the whole panel of lab values. Your total Cholesterol number is higher than ideal but it is not in any way diagnostic of disease. The whole panel has to be looked at.

Due to High HDL-C: Total cholesterol measures the cholesterol contained in all lipoproteins including low density lipoprotein (ldl), intermediate density lipoprotein (idl), high density lipoprotein (hdl), very low density lipoprotein (vldl), and chylomicrons. When HDL-C is elevate, total cholesterol will usually be elevated as well.
