Can one's body develop a resistance to benadryl (diphenhydramine) if one takes it on a daily basis? will the medicine eventually lose it's effectiveness as time passes?

Yes: All antihistamines can lose effectiveness. Most are over the counter now and i'd recommend switching to another family like allegra, claritin, (loratadine) or tavist.
