Embryologic variatio: Formation of organ systems of the embryo complete by end of third month; at a critical point, male or female sex organs differentiate. The mullerian ducts will resorb entirely in the male, and form the uterus in female. But top of these ducts may not fuse and become double-headed (bicorneate). In young women this is often not known until pregnant, and they would be considered high risk for probs.

Congenital: A bicornuate uterus forms during very early development of a female embryo. When the embryo is developing , each half of the genital organs form separately and then come together in the midline. When they do not fuse together correctly, various malformations of the uterus, cervix and vagina can occur. No one knows what causes the incorrect fusion.
