Not causal: People who are depressed will often experience an increase in anxiety due to their depression. They are related, but i would not say that anxiety, per se, causes depression. Increased stress in your life could, however, lead to both depression and anxiety.

Interesting "aside": Anxiety does not, per se, cause depression. There is, however, an important relationship between depression and the "treatment" of anxiety -- decreasing the anxiety can lead to an increase in (underlying) depression. So best to treat both at the same time with healthy lifestyle choices, regular exercise, healthy diet, quality sleep, good hydration, positive attitude, meditation, mindfulness.

Not really: Anxiety does not cause depression, although the two "conditions" can certainly co-exist. Anxiety usually involves a "little extra something, " whereas depression usually involves a "little something missing." anxiety has elements of fear, concern, and agitation; depression has elements of either guilt and anger or shame and despair.
