Sprained ankle: Once you sprain your ankle and return to activity, you are at risk for another injury especially if you are very active. Mostly because it still hurts a little and you are less likely to put your full weight on it. This makes you more likely to roll it again - more often resulting in a more severe sprain but sometimes a fracture.

TWO FACTORS: Two things can influence the increased chance of spraining it again. First, how was it treated the first time? Did you see a doctor, or just "let it get better." Improper or undertreatment the first time increases the chance. Second, what type of foot structure do you have? A high arched foot can increase the chance of recurring sprains. Sincerely, Dr. Latva

Varies: If you truly made a full recovery and were completely healed, then you are at no increased risk. Some patients have some subtle residual instability after a sprain that would put them at increased risk for figure sprains. To some extent, exercises to strengthen the everted of the ankle can be helpful as well.
