Fever: Fever in your child can cause dehydration which can harden the stool causing constipation. Therefore, it is important to push fluids exclusive of milk. If the cough and fever persist, see your doctor

If child looks sick: ...see a physician soon. If you treat the fever with ibuprofen or acetaminophen (there are online calculations to check the right dose for weight), and your child looks better, then it is usually OK to wait a few days. If your child looks sicker, is not drinking well, is having a significant cough with difficulty breathing, then see physician very soon.

Important to note in the case of a toddler with fever, is the child drinking enough fluid and could they be dehydrated? Some ways to assess this are does the child make tears? When was the last time your child urinated? Was the urine dark? Is the inside of your child's mouth dry and saliva thick or moist. Is the child lethargic? If your child appears dehydrated, best to have them seen urgently.
