Swelling : It is not surprising that you have swelling after hardware placement. It can go on for quite some time. Modest exercise is a good idea but your hands are likely hanging at your sides most of the time and that will lead to swelling. At night, if you can sleep with your hands on your chest that will help and raise your hands above your head periodically during the day.

Swelling post-op: Some swelling post operatively is normal, even after 1 month. Increased exercise may increase swelling if the exercises are too strenuous and taxing on the elbow. Be sure to be going to a Physical therapist post op who is trained in this sort of procedure and post-op care and rehabilitative services. Each person is different, so it is imperative for continuity of care you follow-up with surgeon.
