A member asked:

Is it bad if my ast is 48 and my alt is 40 after they were in normal range and i've lost 85lbs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not fatty liver?: Hepatitis is defined as inflammation of liver cells, as is indicated by elevation in serum transaminases (ast and/or alt). Hepatitis can be caused by a variety of issues (infectious, ischemic, metabolic, toxic, infiltrative, alcohol-related, drugs, etc.). It is impossible to say why your liver tests are elevated without more information--so, what tests have been done & what has been ruled out?
